Fluconazole is an antifungal medication prescribed for the treatment of serious fungal infections that affect multiple body systems, including the central nervous system. It may also be prescribed to treat yeast infections and ringworm.
Interactions have been reported when Fluconazole is given with some anticoagulants, amphotericin B, rifampin, phenytoin, cyclosporine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and steroids.
Pets who are pregnant and/or lactating or who suffer from liver disease should not be given Fluconazole. Caution should also be used when giving this medication to pets with kidney disease.
This drug is FDA-approved for human use. However, it is common practice for veterinarians to prescribe such drugs for use in dogs and cats.
